How Does One Treat Toddler’s Diarrhea?

To treat your toddler’s diarrhea, make sure to give him/her plenty of fluids. Water is pretty easy to give, especially if the child isn’t vomiting. If the toddler is vomiting, you can call your child’s doctor, they may recommend a children’s drink like pedialyte (depending on age, and any other conditions or medications the child is on). Avoid sweet drinks like juice, soda, and even Gatorade. Even Jell-O should be avoided. All of these items draws water into the intestine, making it worse.

Many doctors believe that you can continue to feed your child solids while they have diarrhea. While you may not want to (fearing it will make it worse), if your child is up to it, go ahead. The BRAT diet we as adults were always told to eat (bananas, rice, applesauce and dry toast), the AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) say it is perfectly fine to continue a normal diet with breads, cereals, rice, lean meats, yogurts, fruit and veggies. These foods have the nutrients needed to fight the diarrhea.

Some children who have severe diarrhea may need to go to the hospital to receive fluids via IV in order to avoid dehydration. If you are concerned, call your doctor to see what they recommend.

Can My Toddler Continue With Breastmilk Or Formula When Having Diarrhea?

Your toddler can continue with breastmilk or formula if they are still drinking it. They can continue the same diet as before the diarrhea started.

Walking To Lose Baby Pounds After Pregnancy

Walking is one of the easiest and best ways to loose the baby fat after giving birth. Yes, it will take some effort, but it can be enjoyable as well. Walking is an exercise you can do either alone, with a friend, or with your baby. Walking with your baby in a stroller is commonly known, as of late, as “stroller walking”.

Walking To Lose Weight

When you make stroller walking a part of your routine to loose baby fat, you are not only doing yourself some good, but you are also providing fresh air and sunshine for your baby, as well as increasing the bond between you and your baby.

Whether you walk with your baby in a stroller or not, make sure to take long strides to increase your effort and the amount of calories burned, along with increasing the strength and flexibility of the long lean muscles of your legs. As for speed, start out slow and gradually increase it. During the first few weeks after giving birth, you should not exert yourself much and should only take short leisurely walks that so not leave you felling like you’ve had to make much of an effort.

After you have had your six-week post-partum check-up and your doctor has given the ok, then you can increase your pace and the amount to which you exert your self while walking. The best speed for walking to burn calories without overexertion is to walk briskly, but still be able to carry on a conversation. This is an even better reason to walk with a buddy or to bring your infant along. Just remember, that when walking outside, however far you walk, you will have to go that distance again to get back home, so don’t over do it. Increase your stamina in speed, as well as distance, gradually.

Tips For Baking Sugar-Free Cookies For Diabetics

So you want to provide sweets for an activity, but you know that several diabetics will be attending. Making sweets that some of your attendees can’t enjoy is always a downer.  If you decided to simply substitute a sugar-free sweetener to your cookies recipe you are sure to be hit with a cookie disaster.

Sugar Free CookiesFirst, you have to choose the right sugar substitute for baking. There are several sugar substitutes out on the market: aspartame, saccharin, sucralose, neotame. However, some of them lend themselves to baking better than others. Aspartame in particular is a bad choice for baking.  It is not heat stable and loses its sweetness at high temperatures. It appears that sucralose is the most recommended sugar substitute for sugar free baking. Sucralose is can be found at the grocery store at an affordable price under the brand name of Splenda.

Cooking with sugar substitutes will make your baked goods taste and look differently unless you employ some tricks to compensate. According to the American Diabetes Association cookies that have real sugar have a light brown color when they are done because of how sugar reacts when it is cooked.  This means that if you bake with a sugar substitute your cookies will be lighter in color. Cooking without sugar also changes the texture of your cookies. In addition, the lack of sugar will make your cookies drier.

The writers at Eat Healthy suggest topping cookies with cooking oil, milk, or egg whites before you put them in the oven to create the impression of a brown cookie. They also say using less flour and cooking with naturally moist ingredients can help with both texture and dryness, pumpkin and applesauce are an excellent example of moisture rich ingredients that often appear in baked goods.

Eat Healthy has a pumpkin spice cookie recipe  that can be adapted to be completely sugar free or nearly sugar free. Also try sour cream and cherry cookies, crunchy banana cocoa rounds, and jam dot cookies.

How To Stop Excessive Sweating

Certain perspiration here and there during a hot day is what we’d call as normal. And obviously it’s not normal when there’s extreme dampness that literally drips from your shirt. If that’s the case, you may be suffering from hyperhidrosis, a condition known as excessive sweating.

Excessive SweatingHyperhidrosis affects nearly two percent of the population and this condition is not something to be ignored. On the biological aspect, the process of perspiration itself is not a problem. In fact, our body needs to perspire as one of the channels to purge out toxic material and various impurities from the body through the pores of the skin, as well as keeping your body cool.  The only problem is when you sweat way too much that it causes you some embarrassment when dealing with other people.

There two types of hyperhidrosis: localized and generalized. Localized kind of hyperhidrosis is the most common cause of excessive sweating that usually begins from childhood right into the adolescence years. This particular condition does not cause you illness or is a sign of other diseases. In fact, most people suffer from it are physically healthy. Although it’s not a health risk, it does pose some social inconvenience.

The symptoms of local hyperhidrosis are specific as it affects symmetrically specific parts of your body such as underarms, head, face, palms, and even feet. To date, medical experts aren’t sure why localized hyperhidrosis happen, but it seem come from a minor defect in the nervous system. Genetics also is another major factor for this condition.

Another form is generalized hyperhidrosis that makes you sweat all over your body. This condition is more of concern than convenience as the excess sweating is the underlying cause of other disease, which can be serious. One of the notable sign of his particular condition is when you sweat excessively at night for no reason.

There are several reasons why you are suffering from generalized hyperhidrosis. Rheumatoid arthritis, cardiovascular problems, thyroid problems, Parkinson’s disease, HIV, infectious diseases, and even cancers are some of the possibilities why you sweat excessively.

Obviously it’s mortifying to see other people, as you struggling with extreme sweating. But it’s important that you alert your doctor if there is one or more telltale warning signs of excessive sweating such as perspiring too much at night when there’s no other concrete reasons for you to do so (such as nightmares or sleeping in room that lacks ventilation), sweat coming out from all over your body, or you notice only one side of you if sweating while the other is completely normal.

While there is no true cure to treat your focal hyperhidrosis permanently, there are various methods that can help you to mask the symptoms to prevent you from embarrassing moments. Commonly we’d use antiperspirants that are clinical strength to address excessive sweating. Certain medication is also available to stop a number of sweat glands so you don’t perspire excessively.

Although commonly associated with beauty, botox injections is approved (for underarm cases) to be used for temporarily numbing the nerves from triggering to sweat excessively. And for the last resort, a surgery is carried out to cut off the nerve that triggers excessive sweating or removing the sweat glands altogether.

Apart from conventional medications, natural remedies are often use for their effectiveness in delivering satisfactory results. You can use vinegar by drinking or applying externally. Drink a vinegar mixture three times a day on empty stomach to reduce excessive sweating within a week. To make the mixture, mix vinegar with honey in equal amounts or you can simply rub the vinegar on the affected areas to dry out sweat glands.

Herbal tea such as sage is also beneficial to reduce excess sweating. High in magnesium and B-vitamins, these minerals works to disable sweat glands so you won’t be perspire too much. A cup per day is what you need to prevent the embarrassment for good.

Drinking plenty of tomato or grape juices benefits your body in a number of ways: your body temperature will be even which in turn prevents you from sweating too much. And while nobody knows how potatoes work to reduce excess sweat, you can simply cut them in half and rub the moist part on the affected area to reduce sweating significantly.

Hyperhidrosis is certainly an annoyance, but with certain steps, you’ll be ready to interact with other full of confidence. And with many methods to reduce excess sweating, you can choose accordingly to suit your needs.

Vaginal Odor

Understanding vaginal odor, including causes and remedies on how to prevent and get rid of the unpleasant smell permanently.

Vaginal odor, usually characterized by a “fishy” smell, typically is a result of an increase in organisms that are usually found in the vaginal region. You might start to notice or detect vaginal odor after you have sex. Some additional symptoms that can come with vaginal odor are vaginal discharge and vaginal itching or sensitivity.

Usually, what brings about vaginal odor is bacterial vaginosis, or an overgrowth of bacteria. Sometimes, sexually transmitted diseases might bring about vaginal odor. In some rare cases, vaginal odor can be brought on if you forget to take a tampon out. You might experience vaginal odor as a result of a rectovaginal fistula – an irregular opening in between the vagina and rectum – which permits feces to get into the vagina.

Commonly, the causes for vaginal odor are:

Less commonly, vaginal odor may result from:

  • A forgotten tampon in your vagina
  • Cervical cancer
  • Rectovaginal fistula
  • Vaginal cancer

Consult a physician if your vaginal odor is persistent.

Meanwhile, to minimize smelly vagina:

  • Cleanse the external surfaces of your genital regions. While you’re taking a shower, apply a tiny amount of mild, unscented soap and wash it with lukewarm water.
  • Try not to douche. Every healthy vagina is bound to have some bacteria and various organisms. Normal vaginal acidity helps maintains the balance of bacteria and keeps infections in check. Douching, however, can disrupt this sensitive balance.

Other popular remedies used to help get rid of vaginal odor:

  • Try eating yogurt daily as yogurts contain healthy (lactobacilli) bacteria that can help prevent the overgrowth of yeast to combat both yeast infection and bacterial vaginosis that may be the cause for fishy vaginal odor.
  • Garlic has strong anti-fungal properties and, like yogurt, has proven its value in treating yeast infections. Making a natural garlic paste or inserting a garlic clove in your vagina can help reduce vaginal odor.
  • Tea tree oil is another natural remedy favored by many women. Mix a few drops of tea tree oil in some lukewarm water and then use this mixture to wash your vagina.
  • Try Femanol, one of the popular herbal remedies taken orally to help get rid of vaginal odor. It contains many of the natural anti-fungal, antibacterial, and antiviral herbs and vitamins (such as garlic, neem bark extract, vitamin B, zinc and selenium) that helps eliminate vaginal odor by destroying the odor-causing bacteria, making Femanol a potent natural supplement for getting rid of vaginal odor permanently.

Bacterial Vaginosis vs Yeast Infection

Bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections can be hard to differentiate because they share many of the same characteristics. Oftentimes bacterial vaginosis (also known as BV) is mistaken for a yeast infection because more women are familiar with the symptoms and signs of yeast infections, though BV is far more common of the two vaginal health issues.

BV and yeast infections are two separate infections and because of this they are often treated improperly. Vaginitis is a general term for a host of vaginal issues, but usually most of the vaginal issues have some of the same symptoms such as inflammation around the vaginal area, vaginal discharge of varying levels, itching and pain inside and around the vagina.

So what is the Difference Between BV and Yeast Infections?

Bacterial VaginitisVaginal Infections

  • Gray or white vaginal discharge
  • An abnormal increase in discharge
  • A strong fishy odor, especially after intercourse

Yeast Infection

  • Thick curd like vaginal discharge
  • Itching
  • Burning Sensation

Though they can sometimes overlap, the symptoms above generally indicate one vaginal issue from the other. However, sometimes it can be hard to tell which issue is the correct diagnosis so below you will find a little more detail on both vaginal issues.

What is Yeast Infection?

Yeast infections are a type of vaginitis that is also known as candidiasis. Yeast infections have symptoms that are generally limited to an inflammation of the vulva, moderate to extreme itchiness around the vaginal area and a thick curd like vaginal discharge. A yeast infection happens because a different type of yeast has been introduced to the vaginal area, causing the vagina to develop too much yeast. This infection is not an STD except when a sexual partner performs oral sex on someone who has a yeast infection, then the chances of the sexual partner developing a yeast infection around and inside the mouth is a possibility. Yeast infection can be treated by over the counter or prescription medications based upon its severity.

What is Bacterial Vaginosis?

Bacterial vaginosis occurs when a bacterium grows to an abnormally high level in the vaginal area. Roughly 60% of women who have BV are completely unaware of it as they have no symptoms to speak of, but when they do have symptoms they often include: a grey or white vaginal discharge, vaginal discharge in abnormally high levels and a strong fishy odor, especially after sex. Though BV is more common in women who are sexually active, it can affect all women regardless of sexual activity, age or race. The risks for bacterial vaginosis are much higher for certain types of behaviors or activities such as unprotected sex, new or multiple sex partners and using vaginal douches too often.

What to Do if You can’t Tell the Difference?

BV and yeast infections are very common for women and often have little to no symptoms or similar symptoms. Because of this it is important to be sure of which of the two different forms of vaginitis a woman has as complications can arise if left untreated or improperly treated. There are many over the counter treatments for both vaginal issues, but if a woman is unsure it is best to schedule an exam with a gynecologist to have it properly diagnosed.
